The Structured Cloud

May 20, 2024

We are taking matters in our own hand! We did no longer want to be dependent on iCloud for data storage and synchronization. Now, we forged our own destiny by introducing the Structured Cloud. While Structured Cloud is still in beta, rest assured that iCloud sync will remain usable if desired. You may now ask: “How is this any of my concern?” Or “I love Structured just as is, why does anything have to change?” Don’t fret, your questions will be answered in this article.

What is the Structured Cloud?

The Structured Cloud is our new data storage solution. Up until now, you did not have a Structured account. Instead, your tasks were linked to your Apple ID and stored in iCloud.  Because of this, you were able to synchronize your Structured tasks only across Apple devices.

In the future, your data will be stored on our very own Structured Cloud and can be accessed via your new Structured account.

What do I get out of it?

By moving your data to the Structured Cloud, we will be in charge of it instead of Apple. This means first and foremost that we can address issues regarding the storage or synchronization of your data ourselves. In fact, we hopefully will be able to eliminate any issues regarding the storage and synchronization of your data. Especially the somewhat subpar synchronization between the Apple Watch and other Apple devices will be immeasurably improved.

But behold, there is more. With your Structured data linked to a Structured account instead of an Apple ID, you will be able to synchronize your tasks across operating systems. This is a feature, we are still working on, but in the future, you can check your tasks on your Android phone as well as your iPad. Or on any other device you are using to keep organized.

What will change for me?

The main difference for you will be your Structured account. By signing in with your e-mail address, you can access your Structured tasks anywhere at any time.

Other than that, you don’t have to expect any changes regarding user experience, except that the synchronization of your tasks will work faster and more reliable than in the past.

How do I get access to the Structured Cloud?

We will roll out access to the Structured Cloud bit by bit so that we can adapt and keep up with the demand. At one point, a magic button will appear in your ⚙️ Structured settings saying Structured Cloud. By using it and typing in your e-mail address, all of your Structured data will be moved from your iCloud account to the Structured cloud. For more detailed instructions, also check out our Help center article.

The Structured Cloud enables us to create our own Structured ecosystem with a sheer endless variety of possibilities. Hopefully, you are just as excited as we are about the Structured Cloud and all the improvements that are coming with it.
